A Journey of Resilience and Growth
Reflect on a challenging time and discuss the lessons you learned from overcoming it.
Reflecting on a challenging time brings forth memories of a period marked by profound uncertainty and upheaval. Several years ago, I faced the daunting task of rebuilding my life after a significant career setback. It felt like the ground beneath me had crumbled at the time, leaving me adrift in a sea of doubt and insecurity.
Yet, amid adversity, I discovered an inner strength I never knew I possessed. Through perseverance and resilience, I navigated through the storm, embracing each obstacle as an opportunity for growth. I learned the importance of resilience, adaptability, and courage in adversity.
One of the most valuable lessons I gleaned from overcoming this challenging time was the power of perspective. Instead of viewing setbacks as insurmountable barriers, I learned to see them as stepping stones towards personal and professional growth. I discovered the importance of embracing change, even when it feels uncomfortable or daunting.
Emerging from this challenging period taught me the importance of self-belief and resilience. It reminded me that setbacks are not synonymous with failure but opportunities for growth and transformation. Today, as I reflect on that challenging time, I am grateful for the lessons learned and the strength gained along the way.
Navigating Work and Family Life
What is your philosophy on work-life balance, and how do you strive to achieve it?
As a 50-year-old woman with three kids, my philosophy on work-life balance is deeply rooted in prioritising my professional endeavours and my role as a mother. A harmonious balance between work and family life is essential for overall well-being and happiness.
To strive for this balance, I prioritise effective time management and boundary-setting. I recognise the importance of dedicating focused time to my career while ensuring quality time spent with my children and family. This means setting clear boundaries between work and personal time and not allowing work-related stresses to encroach on my family life.
Communication is vital in maintaining this balance. I openly communicate with my employer about my family commitments and seek flexibility when needed. At the same time, I involve my family in discussions about my work commitments, ensuring they understand the importance of my career while valuing our time together.
Additionally, I prioritise self-care and make time for activities that recharge me mentally, physically, and emotionally. Whether through exercise, hobbies, or simply taking moments for myself, I recognise the importance of nurturing my well-being to be present and engaged both at work and home.
My approach to work-life balance is about finding a rhythm that allows me to pursue my professional goals while also cherishing precious moments with my children and family. It’s a continuous journey of adjustment and recalibration, ultimately enriching my life.
